8/22/2017 Recap: East vs West CompetitionOn Sunday, August 20th, we ran the 2nd annual East vs West Competition. Players competed individually and in teams for points that would determine which side of the city could lay claim to the best group of baggers.
The day started off with the Open and Women's singles tournaments with the West side dominating the top spots and taking a big 78-47 lead, despite the East side having 8 more players than the West. In the Open singles division, Michael M. (West) notched his first singles win in an Arizona singles tournament by double-dipping Bill H. (West) for the win. We even got a smile out of Mikey! In the Women's singles division, Drea F. (West) had to fight back through the loser's bracket to double-dip Kelli S. (West) for the victory. The afternoon tournaments had a fairly even field with 26 East side teams and 22 West side teams between the two divisions. During this session, the East side charged back taking the top spots in both divisions and 50 of the 63 available points in the intermediate division. In the end, it came down to the final few matches in both divisions before the East side eventually secured the win and claimed the trophy for the second year in a row. Bryan W. & Matthew C. (East), who were sent to the loser's bracket early, had to win seven games in a row and capped off their win against Jeremy R. & Steve H. (West) in the intermediate division with an exciting 4-bagger. In the advanced division, Alan D. and Jack E. (East) didn't drop a game in an extremely tough field, beating Doug Z & Hector G. (East) in the finals. The final score was East 133 - West 118. See all points here. Here's an overview of the winners in each tournament:
We also offered a Skills Challenge where players completed four different challenges. Players earned points for how well they finished in each challenge. The player with the highest cumulative score on all four challenges was declared the winner! Congratulations to Alan D. who won the Skills Challenge with a near perfect score of 82pts (out of 84pts). Doug Z. and Jack E. tied for 2nd place with 71pts. Check out our Facebook page for event images. UPCOMING EVENTS We have a few EXCITING events coming up that might interest you.
